5 Indoor Kids Activities

As the cold weather creeps up on us, we have to devise ingenious ways to keep the kids occupied. Playing outdoors is great but it’s not always possible. It’s good to have some activities lined up before the kids get into a ‘cooped-up-hence-irritable’ mood.

Here are 5 interesting activities:

  1. One child can hide something and the others have to look for it. As the finders get closer she can go ‘Hot’, ‘red Hot’ or whatever else signifies closeness to the article. Else it can go ‘Cold’, ‘ice cold’ and so on.
  2. Kids can make a salad together. Older ones can cut and dice while the younger ones can shred lettuce or squeeze lemon. They can throw in interesting ingredients to give their own twist.
  3. Spread out a large number of small things in a clear space. Kids can take turns to (the others must time) pick up everything and carry with just their two hands from one end to the other end of the space. To make it more interesting, increase the number of things, and allow kids to stuff their pockets too. The one who picks up everything and makes it across the space in the shortest time is the winner.
  4. Use a sheet and pillows to build a sort of lean-to within the house, where camping can be simulated. Kids can play with stuff under the lean-to.
  5. Get one kid to fold paper in interesting ways and punch a hole through. She must challenge the others to guess the number of holes there will be once the paper is opened out.

All these are simple, doable and fun activities perfect when enjoyed with breaks for hot cocoa and cookies!
