Fun Stuff To Perk Up A Boring Day

08/13/2018 15:06

After a big fat Thanksgiving meal, some days can seem boring. It could be post holiday somnolence. Or it could be the year end blues. Winter has set in. Christmas is still a few weeks away. The weekends can be a wee bit boring. Children could be having a dull day. It's time to perk up your day.

Here are a few kid friendly things you could try:

1. Draw Smileys

Body art might be frowned upon in schools, but when kids are home, its a great way to entertain each other. You could make elaborate ones for the kid's feet, and they could in turn make simple ones on your feet or arms.

2. Make Musical Instruments

Homes always have waste material. Use that to make some of these intruments. If the kids like drums, you could concentrate on that. Fairly simple, kids could make a variety of them and then play on them at the end of it.

3. Adopt a Pet

Don't get worried. This is not about real pets which bring along a host of issues. It's about playiing virtual pet games, which involves adopting and nurturing a pet. Playing with and dressing it up. You could even get your pet a pet-pet!

4. Egg Walking

Oh this one can be super fun! Here's a detailed explanation for why eggs dont crack when we step on a few of them, but they do crack when we step on just one.

5. Tape a Web

Get a nice big roll of sticky tape. Make it a nice colorful one. Point out a doorway, not often used and ask the kids to use the tape to create a web across it. Now ball up some paper and chuck it at the web. Count the ones which stuck. The one with the highest, is the winner. Alternatively, take turns and use different colored balls. At the end take count and decide on the winner.

6. Make your own Salad

Cooking is a lifeskill. Some develop it and other's don't. Parents can help if they encourage kids to try things out. Supply the veggies and the dressing. Do note that knives must be used with care. Appreciate the salads the kids make. Soon you'll have a young active assistant.

7. Autumn fun

Have a pile of leaves in your yard? Well here are leaf activities the kids might enjoy. Make sure the kids are clothed suitably as leaf piles can be dusty. Jumpig into them is something kids cannot resist.

8. Cooperative Art

This can sometimes create a keepsake. Kids and adults should take turns to add some art work on a sheet of cardpaper. As they take turns to draw on the page it helps kids remember and place things if they are trying to reproduce things from memory.

9. Dance away

Put some trippy music on and encourage everybody to dance. All members be it young or old need to be coaxed to join in. Once everyone starts, no one would to stop. It will leave everyone happy and smiling after all he dancing around!

10. Build a Carton Home

Get a few large cartons and stack them to resemble a home. Make sure the kids dont cut out the windows and doors. Spend time inside. Kids could even play inside!

Doing something spontaneous is actually a good idea with kids around. It's a good break from schedules, and gets the kids to jump right into the middle of things. It's exciting to do something different. The break in routine frees up the mind helping keep the plasticity of the brain. Go on - pep up your day!
